Future Teabaggers?
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Only one in four Oklahoma public high school students can name the first President of the United States, according to a survey released today.

The survey was commissioned by the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs in observance of Constitution Day on Thursday.

The Oklahoma City-based group enlisted national research firm, Strategic Vision, to access students' basic civic knowledge.

Brandon Dutcher is with the conservative think tank and said the organization wanted to find out how much civic knowledge Oklahoma high school students know.

"They're questions taken from the actual exam that you have to take to become a U.S. citizen," Dutcher said.

A thousand students were surveyed by telephone and given 10 questions drawn from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services item bank. Candidates for U.S. citizenship must answer six questions correctly in order to become citizens.

About 92 percent of the people who take the citizenship test pass on their first try, according to immigration service data. However, Oklahoma students did not fare as well. Only about 3 percent of the students surveyed would have passed the citizenship test.

She Always Finds a Way to Make the News

What does she care about anything? Violating a US Code for respect for the flag means nothing to her. And this is what the Republicans are looking at for their next shot at the White House.

Sunday Morning

"All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter,
Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost;
The Old That Is Strong Does Not Wither,
Deep Roots Are Not Reached by the Frost.
From the Ashes a Fire Shall Be Woken,
A Light from the Shadows Shall Spring;
Renewed Shall Be Blade That Was Broken,
The Crownless Again Shall Be King."

22 Year Old Dead from Swine Flu

Boehner (R-OH), the real death panel

A 22-year-old woman from Oxford, Ohio, died from swine flu on Wednesday. Kimberly Young graduated from Miami University in December and continued to live in Oxford, Ohio, within Minority Leader John Boehner’s congressional distrct. Reports now indicate that after initially getting sick, Young put off treatment because she was uninsured:

Young became ill about two weeks ago, but didn’t seek care initially because she didn’t have health insurance and was worried about the cost, according to Brent Mowery, her friend and former roommate.

T G I F

Looks like Brittney's going biking this weekend or her Dad took her car keys away. Biking is always fun in the Fall, especially up north and in the midwest where you can bike on bike paths that wind through woods and offer wonderful mountain views. Here in Florida we bike in parks and around lakes. It's fun. Do something to get some exercise this weekend. Have a great one.

"foul play" You Say? . . . That Would Be My Guess

The AP is reporting that Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found hung to death in Kentucky with the word “fed” was scrawled on the dead man’s chest. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive, but “law enforcement officers have told the agency the matter is ‘an apparent homicide.’” “Our job is to determine if there was foul play involved — and that’s part of the investigation — and if there was foul play involved, whether that is related to his employment as a census worker,” said FBI spokesman David Beyer.
