Sunday Morning

Autumn Day

Tell me when the days turn cold
And the crisp, bitter nights set in
I'll bid adieu, adieu to the sun
And embrace the northern winds
Wake me from my restless sleep
For the trees will crackle soon
And Shed their cumbersome coats and dance
Bare with me and the moon
My mouth how it waters in pure delight
Dreaming of scented dregs
Cinnamon, pumpkin, apple spice
Swirling in my head!
And on Halloween, I'll await you where
The headless one rides by
Chasing after phantom fools
And so this night shall I,
September days may shorten in length
October evenings can fright
November rains may fall and freeze
Over the Saman night
But deep within the heart
Of the dormant Earth
The little buds await the Fall
To ensure them of rebirth
And so I sit much like them
Dependant in every way
Upon the plentiful harvest,
Of an autumn day.

Ridiculous! Tea Party Rebels Gain from TARP $$

Call it the amazing bank bailout boomerang. Even though few things enrage Tea Party rebels more than government checks made out to Wall Street financial companies, the reverse dynamic does not seem to be a problem. The top 12 Senatorial candidates most favored by Tea Partiers have already hauled in $4.6 million in campaign contributions from Wall Street. Even more amazing is a tidbit reported by the Washington Post:

The two top recipients of money from companies receiving TARP funds are the top two House Republicans, Minority Leader John A. Boehner (Ohio) with $200,000 and Republican Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) with $187,000. They are followed by the ranking members of two key House committees, Spencer Bachus (Ala.) on Financial Services and Dave Camp (Mich.) on the tax-writing committee.
~
Let's spell that out: The Wall Street banks that were bailed out with taxpayer money are using their profits to bankroll Republicans who now claim to be unalterably opposed to any more bailouts, ever, for all time, in any universe -- even though the original TARP bailout was a Republican idea, signed into law by a Republican president, with the strong backing of the Republican leadership of both the House and Senate.

SALON

TGIF

Our TGIF model is none other than Elvira this morning because she has a full weekend planned for scaring people or making them happy at Halloween parties. I think she even has a TV hour planned with spookie movies here. I may not watch. We rented our own spookie stuff. But whatever your plans are, don't forget the haunting kiddies who spend a lot of time dressing up for trick or treat. We are giving out little boxes of Crayons this year as I think the candy days are gone. But it should be fun, nonetheless. Get some exercise while you wait for the goblins!

Old Towns

I came across this image and it reminded me of a girl I dated in College. Her Mother lived in Pottstown, PA up in the mining country and this was what one of the streets looked like to me. It was a folksy town, full of interest because most of the miners had left for better jobs elsewhere. So the economy here was pretty sparse, at the time. But I loved these old houses. The fronts were all lit with candles when we were there over Thanksgiving one year.

California Here We Come . . .

I always knew this was true. It was a cash crop here in George's time.

Quote for Today

President Obama's big political mistake was stopping the recession from turning into a depression. The economy Obama inherited and has tried imperfectly to fix is now not so deep a calamity that everyone feels impelled to rally around their president. Instead, it's just awful enough for everyone to feel Obama has failed.

A shellacking is coming. The only question is how big. Yet if this is certain, there's nonsense galore being peddled about the election's meaning. The American people in their wisdom are about to punish a party they're furious with by giving more power to a party they can't stand. Talk about a pathetic set of options.

This Style of Dress Kills Me

Bring em back ladies!

Yummy!

Candy Corn Whoopie Pies

To elevate our pies from vanilla flavored to “wow! what’s in these cookies?” flavored, I snuck in a few drops of french vanilla, coconut, and almond extracts. If you don’t have these extracts in your cupboard, the cookies are still delicious with plain, old vanilla flavoring. But, if you’re looking for true flavor punch, you should be able to find those specialty flavorings in the baking section of your local grocery store.

Play a Song for Me

But this may be a tad too high for me to attend the concert.  I just saw on Keith Obermann where a woman paid $2.6 million for a fiddle owned by Napoleon and it sounded like heaven when she play Gerswhin.  You should find the YouTube at MS NBC.  In the meantime, I'll listen to this guy high on a hill and close to falling off the edge.  I'm the one yelling "Don't Jump, Don't Fall Over".

oooooh This might Work for the Scary Night

More Spookie Houses.  This one looks like you could launch ghost figures from the lost rooftop.  Light images coming up from a grave.   That would be scary.

Hire These Guys to greet the Kiddies at the front door or out on the lawn or hide them in the trees.

JunieBug and Zoey Practicing for the Big Night

They will go out treating as the Cat in the Hat.  Don't you think they look cute?  I'd give them cookies and candy only Jerome only eats those little Cheerios.  He is soon to walk and just turned 10 months!

Bankruptcy Climbs for 55 and Older

Read this shocking report, see link at bottom of the story lead.

By Christine Dugas, USA TODAY

A growing number of Americans age 55 and older have put their retirement dreams on hold as they face a dismal financial reality: The recession has forced many into unemployment, stripped away years of their savings or dramatically reduced incomes during what they had hoped would be their final high-earning years.
"My generation thought that we were on easy street," says Irene Froehlich, 61, who lives in the Chicago area. "All of a sudden, we have been hit hard."
Froehlich, who works at home as an advertising sales contractor for two magazines, saw her income drop 75% at the beginning of 2009 because of declining ad sales. With less money, she relied more on her credit cards, and the amount she owed jumped by 25%. She filed for bankruptcy in May.
"I was backed into a corner, and I couldn't pay the bills any more," Froehlich says. "It was not the way that I was raised. I felt that I was a terrible person. But the economy has caused this, and we're paying the price.”
Older Americans are staggering under debt because of a variety of problems — from unexpected job losses late in life and underemployment to overwhelming medical bills and providing financial help to their children and grandchildren, analysts say. Making the issue even more serious: They have little time to climb out of debt, says Matthew Beatman, bankruptcy lawyer at Zeisler & Zeisler in Bridgeport, Conn.

Good one!

Update in Nearing This Years Important U.S. Elections

Republican Leadership

The latest Gallup poll finds Republicans remain in position to win control of the House of Representatives in next week's midterm elections.

Republicans lead Democrats, 48% to 44%, among registered voters. They hold a 52% to 43% margin among likely voters in a high-turnout scenario, and a 55% to 41% margin in a low-turnout scenario. These likely voter advantages for the Republicans are slightly smaller than in previous weeks, reflecting in particular increased Democratic strength over the most recent days of interviewing.

I can see this is going to be a barn burner.  Democrats need to get out and vote.!!

Somebody Sent me Strange Drinks for Halloween

They all looked too gross to post.  This would make a nice drink above if it was OK to use plant stems.  Just add Vodka or Gin.

And It's Off to Work We Go!

I probably won't dress up like the above to work today but it's a nice Halloween jesture.  You can put the horse back in the barn too.  Nope.  If I have to leave the office it will be by car.  The weather here in Paradise is cool and breezy, high temps in the 80's, most afternoons now so the mornings are wonderful to walk and exercise and enjoy nature.  This morning we saw Pheasant going back to the lake.  They come over from the farmland this time of the year for some reason.  The lake by the College is a favorite stomping ground for them this time of the year.  So it's like magic down here in Florida again.  We love our winters.  Go make it a great week where you live!
